One of the first things you can do in dealing with heartbreak is to put space between you and your ex. Avoid going to places you know he’ll be. You will have to go somewhere other than your usual hangout spot to avoid him. Running into him while the wounds are still fresh will only make you feel worse.
Get rid of everything you have that reminds you of all the good times you guys have had together. If you’re not ready to throw it out, try putting it in a box. Out of site, out of mind. Holding onto pictures, sweatshirts, or any special mementos you have of him will make dealing with heartbreak seem impossible.
Channel your emotions in a healthy fashion. Instead of losing yourself in a tub of ice cream and watching love flicks, try letting your emotions out by going for a run, writing in a diary, or even painting your emotions. You want to move on with your life, wallowing in misery won’t do you any good.
Stay busy. Take up a new hobby, join a meetup group, or take a class at your local community college, whatever you do just stay busy. By focusing on something other than your pain will help dealing with heartbreak a little more efficient and effective. On the plus side, you get to learn a new skill you’ve always wanted to learn
Pamper yourself. If you’re feeling rotten on the inside, giving yourself a new makeover or indulging on something that makes you feel good physically (like a bubble bath or manicure) will help dealing with heartbreak a bit more bearable. When people go through heartache, they tend to forget to take care of themselves. So go ahead, buy that new outfit you saw in the boutique window, get a facial, indulge in a manicure and pedicure. Do something that will instantly help make you feel good, even if it’s only a little bit. Take one step at the time in dealing with heartbreak. Like the Kaizen Way, one step at the time can help change your life.
Think about your future. Now that you have a little more freedom to do whatever you want in your life, you can do pretty much whatever you want. If you’ve always wanted to travel, pack your bags and GO! Do the things you’ve always wanted to do in your life that you couldn’t really do with a boyfriend (unless you guys have the same future goals). If you’ve wanted to always learn karate but just never gotten to it, here is your chance.
All that is mentioned above will help you move on with your life. Dealing with heartbreak doesn’t have to be painful as long as you keep yourself busy and don’t see your life as being “over”. You get a chance to start fresh and new, use this time alone to improve your personal growth. Don’t let a breakup keep you from living the life you want.
